What is Pre-K Counts?

Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts provides free, high-quality pre-kindergarten services in schools, preschools, and childcare centers across the state. It is open to eligible families. The PA Office of Child Development and Early Learning has approved the program. Pre-K Counts prepares children for reading and math and cultivates skills for paying attention, following directions, and getting along with others.

A 2020 study found that children who participated in PA Pre-K Counts had significantly higher levels of language and math skills in kindergarten compared to peers who had no early childhood education experience in the two years before kindergarten.
