Tuition Assistance and Tax Relief Opportunities

The state of Pennsylvania offers financial assistance for child care costs when parents are employed and/or in training. More information and a downloadable application can be found here

There are also federal and state tax programs that can help offset child care costs:

  • The Child Tax Credit program is for people with children. This tax credit may reduce the federal tax you owe for each qualifying child under the age of 17.
  • The Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit is a federal tax credit available for eligible taxpayers to assist in reducing your year-end tax liability. It is for working parents or caretakers designed to help offset expenses such as day camp or after-school care. Pennsylvania taxpayers who are eligible for this federal tax credit are also eligible for the PA’s Child and Dependent Enhancement Care Tax Credit
  • Does your employer offer a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA)? A DCFSA allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars for child care costs.

For more information about these tax programs, we suggest you consult a tax professional or preparer or visit the links above.
